Let's Start On Some New Chairs!

Right, New Year and New Chairs! I currently have three chairs in the middle of restoration that will be covered in a multitude of beautiful fabrics.

The chair below through the entire restoration process is my absolute favourite and it pains me that I will have to sell it once it is completed (although I could hold on to this lovely piece). I have chosen a mixture of bright orange fabrics from Designers Guild. I realise the wood is quite an orange colour, but with all the chairs I restore I like to take the old varnish off so I can give the chair a new rich and darker texture to the wood.

The second chair pictured below is an original Ercol Lounge Chair. The restoration so far is going incredibly well, I have sanded down the wood and re-stained the surface so it really brings out the grain in the wood. Unfortunately I also had to re-web the chair as the original webbing was simply losing it strength. I am very pleased with the results so far, all that needs to be made now are the cushions. As this chair has already been sold, the customer has previously chosen the fabric. You may have seen from previous blogs that my friend Craig is redecorating his new boat and prefers plain and neutral colours. So I sourced some beautiful grey fabric in two different tones (the darker grey for the piping and the lighter for the seat cushion itself). Ercol Chairs are known for being simple in design, so the chosen colours are a nod to the beautiful Scandinavian Style.

The final chair is one that I have had for almost a year now and have not completed. It is for a friend in Derbyshire who has a real interest in travelling and I think her home very much reflects this style. So naturally it would make sense to use a fabric to match! Again as this is sold, my friend chose the fabric she wanted, it is from Sanderson and is one of their most popular fabrics called Galapagos.
I have re- webbed the chair as it had none whatsoever and today I will be sanding all of the nasty chips and dents out of the surface ready for varnishing. I cannot wait for it to be finished so I can drive up and deliver it to her next month.

It is going to be a very busy month with these chairs, and there will also be some NEW cushions and Quilts up for SALE very very soon. Happy New Year everyone!
