A Little Piece of Home

My life seems to evolve around so many images I thought you might want more of an insight into my little piece of home. I take so many pictures of what I am working on and what inspires me that I am hoping in turn, these pictures will inspire you. I realize everyone seems to document their homes but I for one can never really get enough of the constant stream of interiors that surface daily online.
These pictures in my blog I took alongside Eves & Moon (my friend Emily to me) we decided to collaborate on a shoot to get a snapshot of our homes and what gives us a sense of happiness.

I have become re-acquainted with my love for books again, I haven't ever really been a kindle person and I love the smell of a book when you open it for the first time. The images are much more tactile rather than pixels on a screen. Ironically I know I am writing a blog with those very images I am talking about but after studying Fine Art everything about the way I work needs to have an element of traditional thinking. Objects carry meaning in difficult times and it helps me draw on what once made me happy.

I recently bought a book called The Kinfolk Table, which has recipes from all around the world, but what it also has are the people who make them, alongside their homes which ultimately inspired this blog. I am sadly not going to show you anything I have cooked (although I did make a great lemon drizzle cake yesterday!) but mainly collections of personal items I surround myself with.

I have also bought a book called The Hygge, it shows you a way into the Danish lifestyle, and after reading some of it's passages it made me want to up and move to Denmark haha!
Copenhagen is clearly ground zero for hygge as people there revel in simple pleasures, particularly when the weather turns foul ( I know I have been there when it was freezing in the Tivoli Gardens)
Their life seems simpler, structured but not complicated. They do the best they can to make every element of their lives relaxed and happy (I guess this is why they have so many pastries!)

The Hygge book explains to you that everyone should take pleasures from the little things to get that hygge feeling. So having coffee, being cuddled up (in an Eves & Moon knitted blanket). and sitting reading allows you to appreciate the little moments of serenity in your own home or space.

My home or more particularly my room because I live in a rented house, is my haven and it is important to me to keep the feeling harmonious and tranquil. But as most creatives I often get bored and I love to change things around. The colours, the books, even the ridiculous amount of vases I have collected become relocated in search of this hygge feeling.

Another section in The Hygge book is all about clothing, being cosy and having a sense of warmth. There was great quote that reads 'There's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes' and I can say my other half will confirm that on many occasions I don't wear clothes that match the weather. The mood takes me and I just fancy wearing certain garments and the rain outside will not stop me. However I have invested in some jumpers over winter and even now I am still using them...I am waiting for the Spring to hurry up so I can be a little more spontaneous with my clothes.

As the last photo in this blog I thought I would use my Eves & Moon blankets. They are the perfect piece in my room to capture the true essence of hygge in my own space.
