Books to Inspire the Home

I am writing this blog again in the knowledge I haven't written anything on here for a few months AND I have to keep things up to date (which I don't, quite frequently) But there is a good reason! I have been busying myself away with starting my new 'brand' or my signature style. I will have to write a blog about that as well, but lets concentrate on this one for now ha ha. Things have been moving slowly but I want to get everything ready before I launch the site and all of the items for sale, so unfortunately everyone will have to wait a little longer. It will be worth the wait, I promise.

I need to figure out how I am going to shoot all of the new things, all the chairs and cushions. As I am sure you have seen online and Instagram the theme is quite obvious but I need to do a little more planning on how to present it all to you. But for now I have been buying up books (for my personal pleasure) but to also help me with layout and ideas for my own home.

I always think owning lots of books creates a very knowledgeable feel to the home (and to yourself of course ha ha). Although I do like them simply for their aesthetic quality. This cook book I have chosen to show you looks quite literally delicious. It's called 'The Kinfolk Table' and its not just a cook book but it has developed that scandi look and feel we have all grown to love. It is simple in layout and has recipes from individuals around the globe. It also gives you the recopies background along with a story about each one and where it derives.

The one thing about all of these books is that they are jam packed with images. and I am sure as many of your creatives (just like me) I do like a book with beautiful big pictures, which I realize makes me sound like a five years old. I think it is true though, some of us respond better to pictures and bold images rather than a written text for inspiration. That is not to say the written text in any of these books is wasted.

The book above 'In the Mood for Colour' does exactly what it says on the tin. It is a colour wheel of images that flow through the book. Naturally I have chosen to use the monochrome-ist image there was (below) which is practically white. I think I have just found the most comfortable palette for me, and it happens to be black and white, with overriding tones of white. Which has also translated over into my work and you shall see that from my shop when it is finally sorted.

If you aren't seeing a pattern with books, you must have started at the bottom of the page ha ha. I loved the Kinfolk Table book so much I bought 'The Kinfolk Home' which I'm sure you can imagine has the same beautiful colour palette (no surprises why I like it!) and layout.

The book is packed full of simple and streamlined interiors (everything I want my home mirror) the one below was an obvious favourite because it has a beautiful bookcase around the door. Both my other half and I love books and I think we would both love a library that we could not only use but longingly stare at.

Since I had been rambling so much about what is to come, I thought I would share a little link with you for my new bigcartel page matsonbailey.bigcartel.com/ do take a look and if you give me some feedback, I would love to know your thoughts. The next blog will be about the new collection so get that feedback in now! xx
