Countryside and Quilts

Autumn really has now arrived! And I was desperate to take a stroll in the woods eagerly kicking the leaves. So after a gruelling three and a half hour train journey I arrived in Devon! (I realise that makes me sound quite dramatic). Admittedly it was pitch black when I arrived, but the following day I was greeted by this site (pictured below) along an old train track that lay just behind my mother garden. It was just beautiful! And I finally got a good chance to stride through piles of leaves like a giddy child! It was such fun.

After the long walk and a well-earned mug of tea, we drove down to the usual antiques haunt in Bridport where autumn had really begun to flourish. There was seasonal fruit and veg widely scattered amongst the little shops. The place just looked beautiful and it had a wonderful seasonal atmosphere. We obviously popped in for another mug and tea, which was welcomed by the rich smell of home cooking and a guitar player happily singing in the corner of the shop.

As we wondered around I spotted several handmade quilts dotted about one of the shops. As I approached there was an entire workshop full of wonderful designs hanging from the walls and banisters. I have recently acquired a large box of samples myself and wondered what to do with them, but now I am planning on making several quilts (with a lot of help from HAZEL AND ELIZA.) Thank goodness for her and her wonderful sewing family!

Each of the pictures above just have the most beautiful designs, I do however want to keep mine very simple so it shows each of the samples I have been given. I will keep you up to date a little later when they are a working progress.

After all the excitement of quilts and copious amounts of tea and cake we arrived at Lyme Regis for the evening fire work display. By this time the wind had certainly picked up and we were tightly wrapped in our scarves and gloves eagerly waiting for the show.

They did not disappoint at all! The display was fantastic (despite my very bad photo) I couldn't do the display any justice through my camera. They also had a slight twist on the traditional bonfire, as a boat was featured (quite apt given it was on a beach!) and obviously complete with the Guy strapped in position.

It rounded the weekend off rather nicely, and now I am back in the big smoke preparing for some Christmas goodies.

Hope you all have a great week, bye for now x
