Shop Design
If any of you follow my Instagram I have made mention of other projects recently. Which hopefully will explain my internet absence. I have been busy redesigning and drawing up plans for an Opticians in Leadenhall Market, London. The market itself is just beautiful which on a weekdays is a bustling place. The store needs a general refresh as most shops do after a few years. It is a great opportunity for my to exercise some of my interior design plans and ideas. Hopefully the shop will look sleek and polished once the renovations are complete (which I will obviously update you with as the project continues).
Let's begin with the exterior. The shop at the moment is a bright royal blue, which is a great colour but I am a little concerned it doesn't give the professional image they want to show their customers. I have suggested that the outside panels should be painted a matt grey so that it not only freshens the general facade but becomes a little more polished.
This hopefully will also be reflected in the signage inside and outside the clinic. After visiting the website to gather some inspiration, their logos looked brilliant. They have that millennial meets Victorian statement look that is plastered all over London's most fashionable interiors, so I decided to run with the theme. The best way of maintaining the brand is to repeat it all over the shop. This will hopefully be projected onto the wall inside the shop, on the sandwich board and the sign above the door. I personally would say when I walk past a shop I want it to be clear as to what they are advertising, the signs should certainly confirm their products.
The window design is a completely different animal. Here I have featured one of the ideas I will put forward to the clinic. I have superimposed glasses in bright colours onto classical paintings to give the shop window some character. There is a second design which is probably more in keeping with the general black and white theme, so we will see which they decide to use.
The interior is best described as mixed. The is a sense of old and very new that doesn't quite match. The entire shop needs to have the same design to give it a easy flow throughout. I did a little bit of homework on opticians and clinics generally and they have the same clean lines and white surfaces we all recognise. As long as the new section of the shop they have had recently renovated is reflected around the rest of the interior it will look perfect!
The shop has two entrances, one of which has a harsh wall painted with orange and yellow accompanied by white gauze looking box shelves. which look a little outdated. I have drawn up two designs in which we have either floating shelves or a simple storage shelf for the glasses to sit. The shop also needs storage. There is so much in the way of clutter that needs to be packed away and certainly not on display. I think most of you would agree, it is not only unsightly but it suggests the shop has a sense of unorganization. You certainly do not want that from an opticians.
Whilst I have been redesigning the interior I have been conscious of price. All the items I have chosen to give the shop a cleaner look are under the £300 mark, this doesn't include the mirrors and shelves which come in at a much lower price of £19 - £50 mark. It is a great time to rethink the look of a shop right now because of all the sales, especially from MADE.COM. I have combed their website in search of chairs that could potentially replace the bright blue school chairs currently owned by the clinic.

The whole design is meant to create a paired back, minimalist look to their clinic. No mess, no clutter only professionalism. I am meeting with the team on Friday to show them my ideas, let's hope they like them. I will keep you updated!
