Christmas in Copenhagen
At late notice my friends and I took an early Christmas trip to
Copenhagen, which I can only describe as the Festive Capital. It was a buzz of
bright lights and food markets packed with tourists and locals alike bustling
through the streets.
We of course completed a successful tick list of
attractions, the first being Tivoli Gardens. If you haven't heard of it, it's a
Fairy Tale amusement park with restaurants and
roller coaster rides. Naturally we had to go on at least one ride (even
though it was raining) our hearts were pumping and our bottoms soaked, but it
was hilarious. We then proceeded to a small table of hot coals to warm up
before some mulled wine.
The
Gardens in which the Tivoli is situated is littered with beautiful flowers, the
whole place really was magical.
We
must have frequented almost every Cafe in Copenhagen, and this was my
particular favourite (not just because of the beautiful décor, which I had to
take photos of) but the food was just delicious. My friends both have a
slightly sweeter tooth than I, so they chose the Blueberry Waffles with Maple
Syrup and I had a traditional Eggs on Rye bread Breakfast. Again with my snap
happy fingers I had to take photos and show you. I could easily tuck into a
breakfast like that right now! Yum yum.
There
was of course the obligatory visit to a Patisserie to sample the Danish
Pastries (of which they were too many to choose just one) topped off with a
frothy coffee.
Below is a picture of my friend and I warming ourselves on the hot coals. After this
photo was taken we warmed our soaked bottoms and our other friend desperately
tried taking a further picture to show our bottoms' 'steaming'. Steam was quite
literally coming out of our clothes! It was so funny..... But what a shame she
couldn't capture the steam! (Thank goodness) Ha Ha!
This
blog of course wouldn't be the same if I didn't mention something about
furniture. And my love for all things Scandinavian now has crept over into the
style of furniture which you will see from some of the new creations to come. The
photo below was taken on a street corner (just one of the many shops selling
these fantastic chairs) only if I had had a big enough suitcase to take them
all back with me!
The
trip was such a wonderful day to kick of Christmas proceedings and I would
recommend everyone go to Denmark for a holiday it is a wonderful place.
