The Rainforest Bed
I feel as if I have really milked these images and squeezed all social media presence out of this French bed. It has taken me a long time and so I am going to show it off. We still have quite a lot of work to complete but I can see in the end in site! This weekend the boyfriend and I spent our Saturday working to finish the foot board and start the sanding on the head board.
I ordered some trim at the beginning of the week to complete the look for the French bed. Honestly I really wasn't sure when it arrived in the post (I did think it may be a little too big and quite over the top) but as it turns out the bolder the better with this bed, especially since the fabric is so bright.
After fixing the remaining fabric to the footboard I got to grips with the glue gun and fixed the trim around all the edges of the fabric. I am pretty chuffed with how it looks. I sadly forgot to take any progress shots because I could see the finish line. So instead you have lots of photos from different angles of the finished piece.
I thought I would remind you how its life began when we undertook the first of many jobs of striping the bed. I really don't like the cleaning down and striping, which sometimes begs the question as to why I do this haha. What I really love is how beautifully fabric can create a new lease of life for any given piece of furniture. I cannot emphasis enough how awful the beginning can sometimes be and yes I am being dramatic haha.
The below photo was taken after I had fixed all the fabric onto the bed. You can still see the unsightly staples along the edge of the wood.
These other photos were taken right at the beginning. We had removed the green fabric on the outside that was pinned down with rusty tacks to then discover even more nails and a truck load of horse hair compressed together so tightly it took ages to remove.
Not to mention the painted wood which was so so so dirty. Before we even thought about paint stripper and sanding we had to clean away about 10 tones of grease and muck! I am just so glad I have a boyfriend that puts up with me constantly asking for his help.
This gives you a much better look at the colour of the stained paint against the lovely wood underneath. I presume at some point the paint was white? maybe? but it certainly wasn't when we got our hands on the frame. We still have most of the paint to remove from the headboard but I can see the end in sight! Come Summer time this baby will be finished!
